I have always lived a creative life whether it was running scales on the piano, strumming a guitar, singing in harmony, dancing like a madwoman, crafting art, or moving color under my brush. I love jewelry that looks like it was pulled from an archaeological site. Nothing too pretty but a precious piece crafted for queens of ages past. And the more “gobs of rocks” the better. As a Reiki practitioner, each piece is lovingly infused with that energy to maximize the benefits of each stone to the wearer.  I love to build what I call “necklace sculptures” which are one-of-a-kind art-to-wear pieces full of treasures of significance: spirals, crosses, fetishes, crystals, goddesses and shamans – whatever takes my breath away and catches my fancy. And yours!

Art is not a learned technique, but rather the sheer joy of being inspired by creating.

The name of my shop, Abacus Bead Creations, comes from my day-time (bill-paying) job as an accountant. An abacus is an ancient calculating tool used in many parts of the world for performing arithmetic processes. There are also beads called abacus beads that can be used in jewelry making. So I tied my two passions together to come up with my shop name. And somehow, the anal-retentive accountant in me comes through in my bead work. Many of my necklaces, especially the multi-strand ones, have intricate patterns in them that I make using various colors of seed beads strung into repeating patterns.

The name of my shop comes from my daughter's middle name which is Ashlee and the D is the first letter of both of our names. Originals are what I make. I have been designing jewelry since 2006. I do this part-time in addition to my daily job. I started out making earrings which is my real passion, then ventured on to making necklaces and bracelets. I love variety, so you will see that I use many different gemstones and findings. All of my pieces are mood related, which means that all of my pieces are one of a kind. Enjoy the view.

My passion is creating original, one of a kind pieces of wearable art for every style and taste. Each item is handcrafted in beautiful Hot Springs, Arkansas... also known as the "Spa City" because of its natural thermal spring waters. I get inspiration from all the fabulous lakes, streams, forests and mountains that I am surrounded by every day. Check out my jewelry and see what I have created for YOU!

My jewelry designs are inspired by nature and art and begin with something that catches my eye in a bead I have discovered - it could be the color, a shape, or the texture that fires my imagination. Each piece evolves slowly through several design stages until I think it fits the vision I have for it. Each design is one of a kind.
